Welcome to the New Literacies Teacher Leader Institute - 2013 Beijing!

Dear Teachers at Beijing Royal School,

We look forward to visiting your school and conducting the New Literacies Teacher Leader Institute. Designing the Institute has been an exciting experience for us—full of innovative ideas, collaborative practices, and dynamic questions about global learning and new literacies in the 21st century. We are eager to continue this ongoing venture as we work and learn with you during the week. We are also very excited about learning from you! As Americans we are interested in the Chinese Educational System and your values and strategies for educational excellence.

On Wednesday, we will meet with teachers (GROUP 1) who participated in the New Literacies Teacher Leader Institute in 2010 in Beijing or attended the 2011 Institute in Raleigh, NC. On Thursday, we will meet with teachers who have not worked with us before (Group 2).

In preparation for our visit, we would like for all teachers to please complete the following:

1. Read two articles about teacher professional development and a New Learning Ecology that support contemporary teaching and learning.
2. Reflect on what it means to be part of a New Learning Ecology.
3. Reflect on the strengths and challenges of the learning ecology at BRS.
4. Be prepared to share your ideas during the Institute.

We look forward to seeing you.
